Caring for youth fifteen and under

One of the goals of the permanent ward unit is to ensure children and youth are connected to their culture, community and families.

Whenever possible we support extended family kinship placements and guardianship applications. The unit would like to work on providing increased cultural awareness to promote a sense of belonging and strengthen the identity of children in care who may struggle with cultural identity. Currently youth have the opportunity to meet with Spiritual Caregivers & Elders if needed. Youth have gone on land-based excursions, cultural events like pow wows and Treaty Day celebrations to enrich that cultural connection.
